Predict the Score: Chicago vs. Dallas

The Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys play this Monday night. Can you guess the score? Closest prediction to the outcome wins a Patch T-shirt!

The Chicago Bears rebounded last week to beat the St. Louis Rams, but now a bigger test awaits as they head to Dallas for Monday Night Football.

Patch is getting in on the action.

Predict the score prior to Monday's Bears game. The reader who correctly guesses the score, or comes closest to guessing the score, will get a Patch T-shirt. At the end of the season, we'll have a random drawing for a larger prize.

Congratulations to last week's winner, York, who predicted the Bears would beat the Rams 24-13 with an eight-point difference from the actual score of 23-6.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:

• If you’re a Patch reader, simply comment on the bottom of this article with your name and what you think the final score of the next Bears game will be. (Example: Benny Bears Fan, Bears 102, Cowboys 0.)

• All entries need to be received by the start of the game. Since the Bears' game is at 7:30 p.m. Monday (CST), we'll need all entries by then.

• To determine the winner, we will take the difference between actual points scored and predicted score for each team, and add them up for everyone who posted in the comments section. The person whose combined total is closest to zero wins. And it doesn't matter if the points you give are higher or lower than actual points scored, we're just looking for the person who has the lowest differential.

• If two or more people tie for being the closest to the actual total of points scored, a random drawing will be held to determine the winner.

• Only one entry allowed per person. All participants must be 18 years or older. You can read our official giveaway guidelines here.

So, please, comment away. And tell your friends!

Dottie and John Iwaszkiewicz tied, with each of their guesses having a nine-point difference from the actual winning Bears score of 34-18. After a random drawing to break the tie, John is our winner. Congrats John, and I'll be in touch soon about delivering your T-shirt!

Such a gracious comment. You can have the Tshirt if you want it. Your faith in the Bears was greater than mine so you deserve it more than I do. I FEAR monday night games.

This is such a strange way to do the math...should you deduct the points per team. EX: John would have 31-18 = 13 (Cowboys) & 38-24 = 14 (Bears)...He was way off the actual score and winner, his point differential would be 27. You shouldn't get credt for overall points unless that is the contest. Just have people pick the total points, like in an over/under if that's all you are interested in.
Dottie should win she was 38-31 = 7 (Bears) and 18-12 = 6 (Cowboys) which equals 13. WAAYYYY closer than John. Good job, Dottie, way to root for your team! (p.s.: I know this involves more math for Patch, but I'd be happy to do it for you since it gives a way more accurate result)
Lindsay M. October 2, 2012 at 04:38 pm
** you should deduct
Martin October 2, 2012 at 05:54 pm
I'm very confused about how a winner is defined. Is it simply delta winning score + delta losing score? 34-18 (actual) with 31-12 (Dottie) and 31-24 (John).
Never hit a system what was set up this way. Most are team 1 (actual) - team 1 (guess) + team 2 (actual) - team 2 (guess). And often require one to have selected the winner correctly too. And no, I wouldn't have won using this calculation...just ove playing with numbers and have run some fun pools in the past and present.
Cari Barcas (Editor) October 2, 2012 at 06:28 pm
Hey guys, the way we find the score is explained in our rules in the body of the story above. Basically, we get the score by combining the difference between actual points scored and predicted score for each team. It doesn't matter if the guess is higher or lower than the score, but the person with the lowest overall difference wins. We're looking for the people who can guess the closest to each team's score. So John and Dottie both guessed 31, or 3 below the Bears score, and 12 and 24, 6 points above/below the Cowboys score, for a total point differential of 9 for each of them. Thanks for the feedback, and hope that makes sense!
John Iwaszkiewicz October 2, 2012 at 07:03 pm
OK guys I admit it. You caught us.
The Patch, myself, Mayor Dicianni and the entire city council are in with a cabal of corrupt insiders to take over all the assets of the patch website and to corrupt the T Shirt award process. I also plan on using corrupt judges to mandate court ordered busing to bring communists, democrats, atheists, and libertarians to speak at all of our public schools, except for the ones that are ESL. I will speak to them myself, in english, which they wont understand, but unlike my wife,at least they will smile and nod. Then I will go out for lunch with evil developers using taxpayer dollars (i.e. my own) and talk discretely about TIFs.
Lindsay M. October 2, 2012 at 07:17 pm
Cara...John guessed 31 for the Cowboys! 31-18=13
John guessed 24 for the Bears! 34-24 = 10 13+10 = 23 Your explanation still doesn't make sense. It's okay though, I'll just end this by not playing any more.
Lindsay M. October 2, 2012 at 07:18 pm
Wow, so dramatic, are you trying to sound smart with all this mumbo jumbo. It still does not make you the logical winner.
Cari Barcas (Editor) October 2, 2012 at 07:21 pm
You're right, Lindsay, thank you! I misread the John's score for the Cowboys as his guess for the Bears. Dottie, I'll be in touch with you momentarily via email since you are the rightful winner.
And don't worry John, I'll set you up with some Patch swag too for your troubles. I sent you an email earlier today to get your info. Thanks for the interest, everyone!
Cari Barcas (Editor) October 2, 2012 at 07:26 pm

John Iwaszkiewicz October 3, 2012 at 12:13 am
LOL you think I care? Check the time stamp on my previous comment. I offered her the shirt BEFORE any of you even mentioned the scoring. Its a joke. Get a sense of humor.
Dottie October 3, 2012 at 05:57 am
Wow, I have been scraping wallpaper all afternoon then had a volunteer meeting this evening until late. This certainly generated a lot of comments. John, thanks for offering to send me the shirt. It would be greatly appreciated but it looks as though I am getting my own. It was obviously wishful thinking about the Bears win on my part and I literally just made up 2 numbers. Call it beginner's luck?

THEN SHOW US THAT BACK ROOM! And not just once. We all know about how the Department of AgricultureRead More classifies pets and the sub-standard housing and feeding requirements they have. Anyone who purportedly loves animals and rescues them would know this and aspire to rise above the bare minimum requirements an offer these companion animals some comfort. Yes, we have heard about your so- called adoption and the procedures for getting your so-called adoptable rescue dogs. Basically, just go to the so-called foster's house fill out some paperwork and get your dog that same day. Hmmmm... pretty shady indeed and anyone who uses the term "rescue" when they are keeping animals in these sub-standard conditions is the lowest of the low. No rescue on earth would work with you or should I say no legitimate rescue would work with you.....

OH, and two weeks ago, she closed her store early when we protested on a Wednesday night. At 6:00Read More sharp, there were two seriously falling down drunks banging on her back door. Dogs barking, afraid in the back room. She was gone, so they went around to the front and started banging on the front door. I am surprised they made it there, they were holding on to each other to stand up. What is she doing in that store that drunk people bang on her door when she is closed? Just what is going on in this place?

Roseanne Lynch - it takes time to shut down businesses by protesting them. At our protestsRead More potential customers come to us and look at the information we provide; the facts about Puppy (Mill) Parlor. They get educated about the LIES PMP tells. And are disgusted by the pictures and Dept of Agriculture reports we show them. They are thankful that WE saved them from consumer fraud and from buying a sick and dying puppy mill puppy from Puppy Parlor and spending thousands of dollars in vet bills on that sick dog. The Village of Lisle has the power to stop this kind of fraud and animal abuse from happening too; to protect potential customers - yet they continue to allow this to continue in your town. The question you SHOULD be asking is - why are your Mayor and your trustees allowing a fraudulent business, that is also cruel to animals and abuses them, in your town? Puppy (Mill) Parlor is Lisle's black eye. And I think THAT alone does more damage to the downtown area than any group of protestors exercising their first amendment rights.
Roseanne Lynch June 18, 2013 at 12:22 pm
I have watched this protest unfold and watched these postings intently. This is a seriouslyRead More degenerating strip mall. The restaurant on the end has been empty for most of the past 4 years, the gas station is closed and fenced. It has nothing to do with Puppy Parlor or your protests. I have wondered how much of your protest is issue-based and how much is personal and from the postings in response to mine I can see that it is just personal. Being a Lisle business owner myself and being a curious and intelligent person I have checked the facts on this place of business and even though you all consistently call for complaints to be made there are none at this time. The owner has cooperated with the Illinois Department of Agriculture and there have been no citations. There are many people with happy, healthy dogs from Puppy Parlor, many more than have been sold "sick and dying" dogs. Unfortunately that happens but it would not be better if these dogs were taken to a shelter. I would truthfully be appalled if the Mayor were to stop a legitimate business from operating just because a few people don't like the owner of the business. Believe me, I do not like the owner either. I went there 4 years ago to purchase a Maltese puppy and I thought she was actually overbearing in her protection of the puppies. I purchased a dog elsewhere and that was my choice but I do respect the right of a business owner to operate a legitimate business and I do respect the other business owners and the Landlord of the property also. As far as your group getting grants to help put this woman out of business...seriously, what about a grant (or donation to West Suburban Food Bank) for the 100 or children who go to bed hungry every night in the Lisle-Woodridge area?

Patch posts mugshots as part of reporting on police actions. We can never be paid to removeRead More mugshots, and thus are not an "extortion website." We can always update articles and report on future developments in the adjudication process.

kindly directed at the editor~ Sorry Mr. Editor, you will get no Mia culpeas from me. I findRead More your practice of posting large head shots on this site appalling and yes it's definitely a form of cyber-bulling and possibly putting innocent people's identity at risk. Other neighboring suburbs post the local police reports without the need of a picture. Many local area Patch.com sites post the names , their offense and where he/she was apprehended. That is sufficient. But as I observed under the previous editor, not only did the Lisle Patch allow one to read the names, offenses and location as provided by the Lisle Police. The Patch website also included pictures, ages and addresses of those cited. Thats when the Patch crossed the line. I'm sure you're aware of internet catfishing. You know where one's picture can be lifted and reposted elsewhere without their knowledge or consent. While I am thankful that you do not ask for monies to remove headshots , how can you guarantee the citizens of Lisle will not become victims of these other parasite websites? Yes, these folks may have used poor judgement . But sometimes nice people do stupid things. Hopefully it's a one-time incident. As much as I believe in the First Amendment , I believe a responsible editor balances FOIA with a person right to privacy. Who wants their children , neighbors , minister or potential employer finding one's headshot on a website like this. Especially should the case be thrown out and/or the person is found innocent. If Springfield legislates this correctly I would hope that you could not post pictures and other identifying information unless the person is found guilty.
