Volunteer Orientation - JourneyCare

"I feel like I receive so much more than I give.” At JourneyCare, we hear this sentiment - or some variation of it - all the time from our volunteers. And each time it reinforces our belief that supporting patients and families facing a serious illness or end of life is the most meaningful and important volunteer work there is.

As a JourneyCare Volunteer supporting Lisle residents, you will find that we offer a lot of flexibility in your service:

  • Availability — We recognize that volunteerism is just one part of your busy life, and there are many opportunities that can accommodate your schedule.
  • Interests — We have roughly 30 refined volunteer roles for you to choose from!
  • Talents & Skills — From hair dressers and notary publics to musicians and avid gardeners, your gifts can be put to good use in supporting our patients and families.
  • Location — Where you volunteer is entirely up to you! You can help at our Barrington or our Woodstock Hospice Centers or support Lisle residents on service with JourneyCare in their homes. Some opportunities can even be completed from your own home!

We have nearly 30 defined volunteer roles (e.g., Care Companion, Hospitality Volunteer, Music Therapy), all of which encourage you to use your unique skills and gifts to make every moment count for those touched by serious illness and loss.

Not all opportunities require direct contact with patients and families; your time and talents can greatly assist with things like special events (fundraising), landscaping, and administrative tasks.

Some of our most essential volunteer jobs are: Patient Care * Bereavement * Community Outreach * Administrative/Office

Please contact us for a full list of assignments; you will also learn a lot more at our required 4-hour orientation class (offered monthly). This training covers: Hospice 101, Overview of JourneyCare, Our Services & How You Can Help, Customer Service, Patients' Rights/HIPAA, and Infection Control. You will also have an opportunity to hear from and ask questions of a panel of current JourneyCare Volunteers.
