The Magic Carnevale: A Celebration of Hope

    Carnevale:  A Celebration of Hope

In the spirit of the Venetian festival of the same name, this year's annual benefit gala in support of Family Shelter Service will take place at 6:30 pm on Friday April 11th at Abbington Distinctive Banquets,  Route 53 & Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn, IL.  Black tie optional.

Unmasking domestic violence and offering help and hope to those in need is the focus of Family Shelter Service’s  benefit gala for 2014.  "This year's theme reinforces the concept of the 'mask' that our clients affected by domestic violence must don each day in order to survive on a daily basis," said Family Shelter Service Executive Director Judie Caribeaux. "They are putting on the face of the happy mom and the competent worker — what is expected of them  — while underneath they wrestle with the torment of being in an abusive relationship where oftentimes leaving can be more dangerous than staying."

"The gala is Family Shelter's largest fundraiser of the year," Caribeaux continued, "and is such a critical funding source.  Especially since we are seeing heightened demand this year for counseling and shelter, and even our hotline calls have increased significantly."
