Police, Bomb Squad Respond for Concerns of Poison in Goodrich Woods

Upon their arrival, officers found a conscious 49-year-old man slumped over in a vehicle that had poison written on it.

Police reopened Hobson Road late Wednesday afternoon after concerns of hazardous materials, explosives or poison had shut it down for hours earlier in the day.

Around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to after a passerby called in a report of a suicide in progress.

Upon their arrival, officers found a conscious 49-year-old man slumped over in a white vehicle parked in a parking lot of the DuPage County Forest Preserve. Police said the man initially tried to drive away, but stopped when he was ordered out of the vehicle by officers.

Naperville Police Cmdr. Mike Anders said "poison" was written on the car as well as on surrounding trees. Based on statements made by the man in the car and observations of officers, police decided to seal off the area.

Residents living near Goodrich said Hobson Road was barricaded off starting around 3:15 p.m. and closed for hours to traffic in both directions between Johnson and Oleson drives. Several nearby homes were also evacuated as a precautionary measure, according to police.

Officials reopened Hobson Road around 6 p.m. after determining there were no explosives, poison or other hazardous materials in the car or the surrounding area.

The man found in the car was taken into protective custody and transported to for a mental evaluation.

In addition to , the , Naperville Park District Police, DuPage County Forest Preserve Police and DuPage County Bomb Squad also responded to the incident.

Anders said police are continuing their investigation. No charges had been filed in connection with the incident as of 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.
