Oberweis Dairy Issues Recall of Brownie Fudge Twirl Ice Cream

Ice cream flavor might contain undeclared egg, according to FDA release.

Oberweis Dairy, Inc., based in North Aurora, issued a voluntary recall through the FDA of quarts of Brownie Fudge Twirl Ice Cream for having undeclared egg.

"People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products," according to a release from the FDA.

Oberweis has stores in Downers Grove, Glen Ellyn and Napervlle, and its ice cream is sold at grocery stores throughout the area. The Brownie Fudge Twirl Ice Cream quarts were sold almost entirely at the retail locations with "extremely limited distribution" in seven grocery stores in Illinois and Wisconsin.

The ice cream comes in a black quart container with a lid that has a gold rim and is labeled “Brownie Fudge Twirl.”

An internal review of the packaging by the company revealed that the product was distributed without the warning that it contained egg product. A second review indicated that the Oberweis submitted the change to the packaging maker but that change was not made.

People who purchased this product are urged to return it to where they bought it for a full-price refund
