Judge to Determine Relevance of Student Records in Naperville North Sexual Abuse Case

The former high school counselor is accused of sexually abusing a student.

The judge overseeing John Carbonaro's sex abuse case is looking over school district records to determine whether the documents are relevant to the case, as Carbonaro's defense has suggested. Carbonaro was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse last year following allegations that he had a relationship with a student.

Carbonaro's attorney subpoenaed records for two students, one of whom is said by prosecutors to have been sexually abused by the former counselor. Prosecutors previously objected to the records being released on privacy grounds. The case returns to court on March 9, by which time Judge Blanche Fawell has said attorneys on both sides should file any pretrial motions.
