Court Watch: Wheaton Residents Charged in Connection to Carol Stream Woman's Overdose Plead Not Guilty

A roundup of recent DuPage and Kane court cases.

DUPAGE:
Darien:
A 74-year-old Darien man faces a second round of charges accusing him of fondling a young girl. John P. Higgins was charged in 2009 in connection to a 2006 incident where he kissed and fondled a then-16-year-old girl, according to prosecutors. Earlier this month, prosecutors charged Higgins with predatory criminal sexual assault relating to incidents from 2001 in which he is accused of fondling a young teen girl. Higgins pleaded not guilty on Dec. 19 to the six counts from 2006, court records show. He is free on bond.

Wheaton:
Two Wheaton residents charged in connection to the drug overdose death of a Carol Stream woman pleaded not guilty on Dec. 19 to drug charges. Tiffany Vanderbusch and Glenn Kliest were arrested in November after, according to prosecutors, Kliest sold the heroin to a woman who later died in her apartment. Kliest and Vanderbusch later went to the woman's apartment and doused her with bleach in an attempt to destroy evidence, prosecutors have said. Kliest remains in DuPage County Jail on $750,000 bail, while Vanderbusch is in the jail on $75,000, in the drug case.

KANE COUNTY:
St. Charles:
A former Super Target employee accused of stealing cash from store registers is now wanted on a warrant after not appearing in court. Nicole Jurkowski. 22, was arrested in February after a police investigation determined she had taken approximately $2,300 over several months and then gave it to her boyfriend, Anthony Allen. Jurkowski had sought to be placed in a pre-trial diversion program, but court records are unclear as to whether that request was ruled upon. Allen, who was also charged with theft, is scheduled for a Jan. 5 hearing.
