Man Accused in Naperville Pizza Shop Robberies Pleads Not Guilty

Here's a list of notable developments in DuPage and Kane County court cases.

DUPAGE:
Hinsdale:
A Hinsdale man who taught at Sandburg High School has been indicted on charges he sexually abused a female student. Steven Reynolds was arrested last month after police investigated information about an encounter between the girl and Reynolds at his home. Reynolds was indicted Feb. 28 on two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He is free on bond and scheduled to be arraigned on Monday in DuPage County.

Naperville:
Another man suspected of being involved in a string of robberies in an around Naperville over the last year has pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of armed robbery, aggravated robbery and kidnapping. Cory Paytes appeared in court on Feb. 27 when he denied charges he worked with two men to rob at least two pizza restaurants, as well as other locations, in DuPage County. Co-defendant Travis Gamble previously pleaded not guilty to similar charges, while the third man, Josiah McCroskey, is due in court next week for arraignment.

Wheaton:
The man accused of breaking into an off-duty police officer's home wants to claim self-defense at his upcoming trial. The attorney for Kerin Ramirez, who is charged with home invasion in the 2011 incident, states in court records that his client was "unarmed and highly intoxicated" at the time he scuffled with the Wood Dale police officer in his home near Wheaton. The officer shot Ramirez in the stomach during the altercation. A judge on March 1 denied Ramirez's request to see disciplinary records for a neighbor, a retired DuPage County sheriff's deputy, who joined the fight with Ramirez. A March 20 hearing was set to determine whether Ramirez can claim self defense.
