Court Watch: Glen Ellyn Man Gets 10 Years for Punching Pregnant Wife

Attorneys for triple-murder suspect Johnny Borizov moved one step closer this week to having access to medical and psychological records for co-defendant Jacob Nodarse. DuPage prosecutors turned over a large box of documents from two doctors who examined Nodarse for his defense. Borizov's attorneys have long sought Nodarse's records to bolster their defense that Nodarse acted alone in the shooting deaths of three people in March 2010. Nodarse has pleaded guilty, but mentally ill, in the murder of one member of the Kramer family. His deal with prosecutors includes testifying against Borizov. Both men are scheduled for Dec. 14 hearings.

Elmhurst:
Cheryl Luchetta is expected to have a new attorney when she returns to court Dec. 14 in her attempted murder case. Luchetta, who is accused of drugging her young son, previously received permission to make a phone call from the DuPage County Jail in order to find a new lawyer to represent her. She previously had a public defender. On Nov. 29, attorneys indicated her new lawyer would appear at the next court date.

Glen Ellyn:
A man accused of punching his pregnant wife in the head and face earlier this year has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. Eric Rego pleaded guilty on Nov. 30 to one count of aggravated domestic battery in connection to the May incident inside a Glen Ellyn apartment. Prosecutors dropped seven other charges as part of the agreement with Rego, who was also sought on a Rhode Island parole violation from a previous domestic violence conviction. Rego's wife, Anne, recently pleaded guilty to financial institution fraud and received a 10-year prison sentence - the second time she has been imprisoned in the last decade.

KANE:
St. Charles:
An Aurora man charged in June with punching his girlfriend and then stealing her purse is scheduled to stand trial Dec. 7 on a domestic battery charge in DuPage County involving the same woman, according to court records. Victor Torres, 24, was charged in April with punching the woman in the head - causing her eyes to swell shut - during an incident in Naperville. He was free on $3,000 bail when the St. Charles incident took place. After learning about Torres' arrest in St. Charles, DuPage prosecutors convinced a judge to revoke his bail and keep him in jail while awaiting trial. The trial date is the third set in the DuPage case, with the girlfriend failing to appear in October.
