That Sweet Smell of Success is Coming from Crème

The public is invited to its ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday.

"Let them eat cake" is not such a bad sentiment, and something you will enjoy if you attend ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Lisle's newest bakery will sell its goods for half price from 5-7 p.m. during the festivities. Village officials and representatives of Lisle's business community are expected to attend. The shop opened for business Aug. 8 at 6470 College Rd.

The store is owned and operated by husband-and-wife team, Stan and Monica Blacha of Downers Grove. Monica Blacha describes the business as a traditional full-service bakery. Stan Blacha, Crème's head pastry chef, trained in Europe where he learned the fundamentals of French and European pastry. He then spent years perfecting his art in some of the leading bakeries in Chicago. Following European tradition, Crème's products are made from scratch.

The store is really a family affair, Monica Blacha said, because the couple's two daughters, Sofia, 14, and Karoline, 13, help out.

Crème's services include wedding cakes, pastry or sweet tables, cupcakes and cakes for special occasions such as birthdays, showers, communions, baptisms, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs and christenings. The store also sells fresh breads and rolls and pastries, especially in the morning, along with coffee.
