I made a call to the economic development office this morning, not realizing it was before they opened, so hopefully soon I'll have some more details about it. Owner Niketa Pettas, who also runs the Xando Cafe in Hickory Hills, said The Firehouse is not the same one that was proposed at a July 2010 Economic Development Committee meeting. While the names are similar, the venue won't have the same atmosphere.

"A lot of people are under the impression we're opening a bar," Pettas said, "Now everyone knows we're doing a restaurant."

Pettas compared the patio-style food to Portillo's, with a menu stocked with burgers, ribs, wraps, hot dogs, paninis and homemade french fries. The restaurant is applying for a liquor license that will allow them to offer wine and a selection of domestic and imported beers on tap, but no other alcohol.

Pettas expects to open The Firehouse's doors at the end of this month.
