Village, Character Counts! Alliance Announce Pillar Award Recipients

The residents were honored earlier this month.

During the Dec. 3 Village Board Meeting, Mayor Broda and the Lisle Community Character Alliance honored six citizens whose actions reflected one of the values of the Character Counts Pillars.

Character Counts! is a non-profit organization that encourages people to model six important values or pillars: Trustworthiness, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship, Respect and Responsibility. Character Counts! Pillar Awards are periodically awarded to individuals, businesses or groups whose actions reflect one of the pillar values.

The Character Counts! Pillar Award Winners are:

  • Emma and Grace Arnt—Pillar of Responsibility. These sisters used vacation time in Florida to run a lemonade stand and donated the proceeds ($110) to Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
  • Sierra Birdsell and Ryan Wood—Pillar of Trustworthiness. They found and returned a lost iPad to its rightful owner.
  • Chuck Goff—Pillar of Respect and Caring. Goff is a funeral director who helped a husband through the difficult time of his wife’s passing.
  • Calvin Moses—Pillar of Caring. Calvin grew his hair long enough to donate to Locks of Love to help a child who lost hair to an illness.
