Patch Picks: Summer Camps

Plan now to avoid a bummer summer.

It won't be long before those backpacks come home filled with used-up school supplies and end-of-year art projects; summer is right around the corner.  Whether you need a place for kids to be while you're working during the day or simply can't bear to hear the words "I'm bored" for the 875th time, it's time to look at summer camp options before they're all filled up.  Here are some Lisle options to check out:

, 1825 Short St., Lisle, 630-964-3410

For kids entering grades 1 to 6 in Fall 2011, the Park District offers Camp Summer Quest.  Campers will enjoy field trips, special events, and swimming at Sea Lion Aquatic Park with an emphasis on outdoor fun.  Registration begins Monday, April 4.

As the name suggests, these camps teach baseball (including a special Fast Pitch camp) and basketball skills.  Participants also receive Bulls and White Sox gear and ticket vouchers for a White Sox game or a chance to play against other top scorers at the United Center.  Registration is now open

The Arboretum is once again offering Summer Science Camp.  More than 100 nature-based weeklong camps are available for kindergarteners through 8th graders from mid-June to mid-August, as well as special programs for teens.  Registration is now open.

, 4045 Naperville Road, Lisle, 630-955-1958

These folks developed their summer camp programs by asking 3,000 kids how they'd like to spend their summer.  The result was 14 different options, including Gross and Gooey Science and Dig Ancient Egypt, among others.  Find the complete list here.

, 1500 Eisenhower Lane, Lisle, 630-663-4500

This will be the 32nd year for Showchoir Camps, where kids learn music, dance and stagecraft.  That's 30 years longer than "Glee" has been on the air.  For ages 11 and up. Registration is now open.
