Patch Picks: Five Great Non-Profits Making a Difference

A look at some hard-working organizations helping to keep Lisle a great place to live.

Lisle is full of caring and dedicated individuals working to keep the community strong.  Whether they're helping people through a rough time, supporting education, fighting cancer, or preserving heritage, these groups are helping keep Lisle a wonderful place to live.  

While Patch has already begun discussing our wonderful , here are five examples to discuss today:

PACT is dedicated to giving people with disabilities the opportunity to live better lives.  Programs include life management, community services and child and family services to assist children with disabilities.

The Lisle Education Foundation provides financial assistance and school supplies to give every student an equal opportunity to succeed throughout the school year. Along with holding fundraisers, they collect donations from corporations, sponsors, faculty, staff, and parents.

Chitrahar Cultural Academy works to preserve  South Asian culture by raising awareness about South Asian heritage. The academy sponsors performances and meetings aimed at promoting diversity and cross-cultural understanding. They help young South Asian people in America manage their multi-cultural upbringing, and offer examples of how they can simultaneously maintain their American and South Asian identities.

Allong with spreading awareness of the issue, National Ovarian Cancer Coalition volunteers help provide patients, family members and caregivers support and encouragement. They also organize awareness events, provide educational programs, disseminate literature at health fairs and address organizations through a speakers bureau.

Rotary International provides humanitarian services and encourages high ethical standards in all vocations and to promote goodwill and peace.
