Northern Illinois May be Hit with More Snow

After a Sunday that brought us sunshine and temperatures around 40 degrees, we're in for yet another reminder this week that, yes, it is still winter.

Though Monday is forecast to be mostly sunny with a high near 38, snow will move in on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago.

Accuweather.com says a blizzard will move through parts of the central United States on Monday. Winter storm watches and warnings have already been issued for parts of western Illinois, northern Missouri and eastern Kansas. Blizzard warnings are in effect for parts of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas.

"The storm will be slightly weaker when it reaches Chicago, preventing the 'Windy City' from facing immobilizing blizzard conditions," writes Accuweather.com Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski.

Just how much snow could we see on Tuesday? Meteorologists are still monitoring the storm system, so snowfall predictions are forthcoming. Accuweather.com says we could see 3-6 inches of snow Tuesday.

The National Weather Service in Chicago says "there is some potential for significant snow accumulation Tuesday, mainly north of Interstate 80. However, temperatures could be just a bit above freezing, which would lead to greatly reduced accumulations."

The forecast high for Tuesday is 34.

The forecast calls for a chance of snow every day this week. There's a 50 percent chance of snow on Wednesday with a high of 33. Thursday through Sunday will see a slight chance of snow showers with highs in the low- to mid-30s.
