I know it is hard to think about it (unless you are a kid!), but Christmas is right around the corner! Do you know what you are going to ask for?? I know what my perfect Christmas present would be... A Furever Home. My name is Max, as in the Max from The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. I am not saying that my past owner was the cold and almost heartless Greenie Meanie, but pretty close. I spent my life in a backyard tied and was used as a breeding machine. When my owner lost his job, he stopped feeding me and the other dogs at Mt. Crumpit. But just like the Grinch’s Max, I was a loyal sidekick, handling the poor treatment with good cheer, courage and grace. Because of my sweet and awesome temperament, I became a Rover Rescue dog! When I arrived in IL, I was so thin you could see all my ribs and my spine could be circled with your fingers. And, I was pregnant! Any weight I had was all puppy. I gave birth to a vigorous litter of six puppies, who have all found wonderful homes. Now it is my turn!
Grab a cup of hot cocoa while I tell you about myself. I am an exquisite 6 year old Shepherd mix, who weighs a healthy 55 pounds. I have a gorgeous shiny black coat. My foster mom thinks I look like a coyote dipped in black ink! To add to my long- suffering past, I was hit by a car several years ago. My back end is a little goofy as I did not receive the proper medical attention that I needed. But believe me - it doesn’t keep me down! I love going on walks and keep up just fine with my three foster canine siblings. My foster mom is helping me build up my stamina. She doesn’t want me to overdo it considering the stress my body has been through with pregnancy, lack of nutrition (or should I say starvation) and lack of regular exercise. I am not crazy about walking on my leash, but I am getting better all the time. Not only do I have other dogs to play with at my foster home, but there are also horses, chickens, ducks and cats. My foster mom says I do have a pretty high prey drive so I would need to be supervised with the smaller creatures. I have a crate, but to be honest with you, I hate it. Good thing that I am housebroken and my house manners are superb. I have been given free reign of my foster home. My only “questionable” habit would be sleeping on the couch. I just have to give my foster mom puppy dog eyes; she remembers my past and is more than willing to let me lounge. If this isn’t allowed at your house, I learn quickly and a verbal correction is all I need to know the rules.
So after the Grinch’s heart grew three sizes, I am positive his trusty companion’s life was much, much better. That is what I deserve also! What size is your heart? Are you looking for a sweetheart of a dog that is playful, but not high strung, protective, but without aggression, and affectionate, but not clingy?? That would be me- Max. Please hurry and call Teri at 630-897-7454 before the snow starts to fall! My adoption fee is $200.
