ASK PETER: Fighting Against Superbugs
Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the latest installment of Ask Peter today, a frequent video conversation with Sixth District residents about issues important to them. In this segment, Congressman Roskam answers a Facebook post from Rick Nelson who stresses the importance of preventing antibiotic resistance infections, or superbugs. Each year, two million people suffer superbug infections and 23,000 have died as a result.

“I introduced the DISARM Act and it does two things. It creates an incentive for companies to manufacture these drugs that we need and secondly it calls for an agency-wide review to cut the red tape so we can get to production as quickly as possible. Look, we don’t want to have a situation where a doctor looks at you and says, ‘I can’t help your loved one because I don’t have the drugs to administer to that person right now.’ This is an opportunity for us to take this on, to move forward, to work together and come up with a solution.”
