We start the first of the year with the first ever Inspector Sejer novel, "In the Darkness", which launched Karin Fossum's career as the Norwegian Queen of Crime.

Eva is walking by the river one afternoon when a body floats to the surface of the icy water. She tells her daughter to wait patiently while she calls the police, but when she reaches the phone box Eva dials another number altogether. The dead man, Egil, has been missing for months, and it doesn't take long for Inspector Sejer and his team to establish that he was the victim of a very violent killer. But the trail has gone cold. It's as puzzling as another unsolved case on Sejer's desk: the murder of a prostitute who was found dead just before Egil went missing.

Will Inspector Sejer be able to put the puzzle together? Read "In The Darkness", then come to the discussion where we’ll also explore what has made this a prize-winning series that’s been published around the world.

From magazines to interactive children's activities, the Lisle Library offers more than great reading material. Its collection includes more than 122,000 books, 350 magazine subscriptions, 12,000 audio materials, 11,000 DVDs and art prints. Patrons can take advantage of three quiet study rooms, copiers, computers, tables and dozens of modern orange chairs for comfortable reading. A meeting room is also available that includes a grand piano which employee Rhonda Shelson said, "every kid in 50 miles has played in recitals." (According to Snelson any Lisle Library cardholder can utilize the meeting rooms for non-commercial purposes, as long as it meets the library's criteria.)

The children's services center offers board games, video and computer games, graphic novels and craft programs. (Don't forget to say hello to the library's turtles and gerbils.)

The library sponsors four monthly book groups (all for different genres) and a film group. Visit its Facebook page for updates, event information and photos.
