Students Training Service Dogs
The Illini Service Dogs is the first of its kind in the nation. The program is made up of dedicated teams of University of Illinois students who foster and train our service dogs while gaining knowledge of disability culture and rights. Our service dogs learn over forty commands to assist people with disabilities and we will demonstrate all of those amazing skills including turning on and off lights, retrieving objects, bracing, and much more.
We invite you to join us on January 7th, 2013 at Lucky Dog Daycare & Boarding located at 1992 Ohio Street in Lisle from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM where you will meet our trainers and see some of our service dogs in training in action.
We will also outline how people with disabilities are paired with a service dog and how they will become an amazing team. Attendees will see the working relationship and emotional bond that develops between people with disabilities and trained service dogs.
Everyone in attendance will get the unique opportunity to work hands on with a dog. You will get to see first hand what it is like for the students to train these dogs, and the impact that these dogs will have on someone’s life.
