An 18-year-old Lisle man is accused of larceny after he and three other individuals were allegedly involved in the theft of a hippo head statue from a miniature golf facility in Aiken, S.C. Bradley S. Heidler is a student at the University of South Carolina, according to a report by a South Carolina CBS affiliate.
Navistar's new headquarters hit a milestone this month: more than 1,000 workers are now employed at the Lisle campus, according to a Naperville PR firm. Approximately 300 are transplants from other Navistar locations throughout the country, and more than 300 are recent college graduates, according to a press release dated Sept. 21 from Culloton Strategies. According to its recent state tax credit application, the company intends to maintain 2,200 jobs in the state of Illinois.
The Naperville man accused of causing a fatal accident on I-88 last month died Friday afternoon, according to a report from the Naperville Sun.   Previously on Patch: William A. Howe's vehicle was seen driving the wrong way down the westbound lanes of I-88 on Aug. 6, and witnesses reported Howe was throwing cash from the windows. According to police, his vehicle collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla. Two Elmhurst residents died following the accident. Passengers in two other vehicles involved in the crash were not harmed. The Naperville Police arrested two men Tuesday night following a drag racing incident where the vehicles, a limo and a Pontiac Grand Am, were clocked speeding at 102 mph, according to an article from the Naperville Sun. Less than a year into his latest term as 48th District Representative, Michael Connelly has announced his intent to run for Senate. The Lisle resident threw in his hat after incumbent Sen. John Millner announced he would not be seeking an additional term, according to the Daily Herald.   According to the article, Milner is endorsing Connelly for the position. An undetermined number of students appeared to show up to the first day of classes at Naperville North High School intoxicated, states a report from the Naperville Sun. State Sen. Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove) today tweeted his confirmation of a Daily Herald blog post suggesting he is considering a run for the Illinois House. The Indiana Business Journal is reporting that Navistar could be slated for tax abatements in Indianapolis with a promise to create more jobs, though they had to pay $5 million back to the city last year after failing to retain jobs. According to the article, the company will create 250 jobs and retain 30 more over the next few years. The Morton Arboretum’s summer concert series is taking a year hiatus, according to their website. The Tune In with Trees series has hosted the likes of Lyle Lovett, Huey Lewis and the News, and Emmylous Harris. The Arboretum will ‘re-evaluate our options for musical entertainment.’ They are still continuing with the Theatre-Hikes series, as well as this summer’s Nature Unframed exhibit.
Naperville North High School was named one of the state’s top high schools for college preparation by the Washington Post, based on its Advanced Placement offerings. The Post’s High School Challenge recognizes more than 1,900 schools across the nation. Schools are assigned a ratio based on the number of AP or other college-level tests taken in 2010 by the number of graduating seniors.
