What's the best way to teach students new methods and keep them focused on a two-month project? Let them exercise their creativity, and offer a beautiful end product. Sixth grade instructors at Lisle Junior High School have paired with StudentTales to help students produce published hardcover books, written and illustrated by them. According to teacher Patricia Stevens, StudentTales prints individual copies of student work at a low cost, and offer family and friends the opportunity to purchase additional copies. from Lisle Community School District 202 At the recent Illinois Art Education Association annual conference held at the Lisle Hilton, Lauren Etzkorn, a Schiesher School student,  was one of only forty young artists across the state to have their artwork selected for recognition as an Outstanding Youth Artist.  In her selected piece, she created a Chinese scroll using black ink for the bamboo forest and the panda.  She also added a red ink Chinese colophon seal and wrote her name in gold Chinese characters, then as a final touch added real bamboo for the ends of her scroll.  Lisle Community School District 202 continues its efforts to promote pro-social behaviors with a recent set of educational productions by Climb Theatre. The acting troupe integrated performance with discussion at Lisle Junior High School Oct. 18-20. It was the fifth year of the performances, which are funded by the Lisle HSO. The performances introduced a different topic to each grade. The theater group presented "Conflict Resolution" to sixth graders, "Cyberbullying" to seventh graders and "Gateway Drugs" to eighth graders. from Lisle Community School District 202 LJHS eighth grader students recently completed a unit in language arts writing process papers; in this case, explaining how to create their favorite childhood Lego creations. The school posted each group's original design, and the one created based on their instructions.

from Lisle Community School District 202 On Oct. 25 the classes of Anjanette Gucciardo and Herb Anderson built and tested water-powered rockets as part of their 'motion' unit. Gucciardo's students Kyle Cleary, Ralph Colon and Marco Martinez constructed the highest-flying rockets. Below, Ben Massura, Tony Schneider and Adam Grego were the winners in Anderson's class.

From Lisle Community School District 202 Eighth grade art students at Lisle Junior High found a new use for old books with student teacher Susie Xiong, a senior in Art Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. The stuents created altered books, a form of mixed media. Following a presentation on a variety of altered book examples and methods, students chose an old book based on its size, shape or content.  Using techniques such as painting pages, adding or deleting text in the book, collage, and cutting out windows through pages, students modified their books into unique …
