To the Editor: I have a solution to the Governor’s budget that proposes draconian cuts to community-based services. This includes children and adults with developmental disabilities and other vital human services. The solution is to spend Illinois tax payer dollars in an efficient and effective manner! The Governor’s proposed budget levies horrific cuts to community based services that are quality in nature and cost effective when directly compared to the State-run Institution model that clearly is a sacred cow in Illinois for some elected officials. Illinois State-run Institutions have a …
One of EPA’s most important and cost-effective programs for reducing the health threat from diesel emissions - the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) - which was signed into law and reauthorized in January for another five years, is on the chopping block. It is anyone’s guess as to why public health is being treated by our leaders as a political issue; but OUR health should NOT be further jeopardized. I endorse Donald Cook for the Lisle Park District. While Don has served on the board for ten years, the Park District has grown and expanded to become a jewel in the crown of Lisle. After serving on the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District for over 30 years, Don's interest in this village and his commitment to improving the programs and facilities has been his top priority. He is highly-respected by park district staff and members of the community that know he is a man of integrity. Don understands the time commitment and seriously looks out for the taxpayers' best interests. He is not a newcomer to…
Resident Carroll Heatherly shared these photos from the tail end of the 2010 boys' soccer season at Lisle Senior High School. Our favorite is Coach Kohorn hugging the championship trophy with pure delight--and none of his boys around! Editor's note: I'd definitely say this contribution is at least worth a Comment of the Week prize. Thanks, Carroll!
