Welcome back, Patch Blogger!
Six months after they opened a store-front carryout restaurant on Main Street in Downers Grove, the owners of the Thai Cafe are adding a second sit-down venue south of the tracks. The new Thai Pot opened at 2249 Maple Ave. on Thursday, said Tiffany  Amprachna, a Bangkok native who with members of her family operates Thai Cafe and another Thai restaurant on Roosevelt Road in Lombard. The family's plan always called for expanding into a larger space that could host patrons interested in a relaxed sit-down meal. The Main Street space has limited counter space and does most of its business in …
Name: Max Age: 3 years old Type: Cat Personality: Max is a sweet, gentle cat who loves attention. He has feline immunodeficiency virus, but the West Suburban Humane Society said he is still expected to live a long, happy life. Because of his illness, however, he needs to be in a home either without other cats or with cats who already have FIV. He doesn't require any special medications, nor does he have any symptoms, but he needs to avoid places where he could pick up an infection. He has lots of love to give an owner who will love him back. Fee: Max's adoption fee is $125, which covers a …
You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Lisle Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice: Granny's—According to a Yelp review, this places has "THE best breakfast in DuPage County." A variety of Greek-style omelets and skillets that you can top off with toast or a shortstack of fluffy pancakes. Looking for lunch? Enjoy all the standard sandwich and burger fare with a side of crispy fries, and amazing soups. But make sure you get in early!—they …
You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Lisle Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice: Bono's Neighborhood Pub—This dining spot, near Ogden and Yackley avenues, specializes in food you can eat with your hands (and that's not a bad thing). They offer quarter- and half-pound burgers, Italian beef and sausage, submarines, wings, salads, tacos and burritos. Top off your entree with an order of homemade fries or chips. Carry-out, grab a quick lunch…
You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Lisle Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice: Thipi Thai (Glen Ellyn)—Hankering for authentic Thai cuisine? Make the trek to Glen Ellyn, where Thipi Thai combines wonderful food with equally wonderful ambiance. Elephants adorn the outdoor sign, the walls and even the hostess stand. You'll find a fresh flower on every table, every day, and music that won't overpower the conversation. Suitable for a quiet…
The Lisle restaurant scene has gone Eastern with the addition of Tairyo, a Japanese steakhouse and sushi restaurant which opened on Feb. 7 to anxiously awaiting, Asian-food-deprived Lislites.   Tairyo offers your traditional Japanese steakhouse fare such as Hibachi Chicken, Lobster and Steak.  My favorite was the Hibachi Filet Mignon, which I had prepared medium rare.  The Hibachi menu, which is performed by a chef at your table, includes a shrimp appetizer, soup, salad and your choice of vegetable or chicken fried rice.  The chicken fried rice stole the show.  Tairyo is a great place to …

Each week, Lisle Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice: Tangerine Cafe (Naperville)—This breakfast and lunch joint is a bright spot near downtown Napervile's parking garage (within walking distance of North Central College), but people don't just come in for the convenience. They come in for the omelets, paninis and combos with names like My Cousin Vinny Omelet and Leaning Tower of Sweetness French Toast (along …
You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Lisle Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice: Country House Restaurant —Did you know you can find "Chicagoland's #1 burger" right here in Lisle? The Chicago Tribune bestowed the honor on Country House, which has locations in the College Square Mall, as well as Geneva and Clarendon Hills. They have a burger for every taste: their signature Country Burger, buffalo, ostrich, turkey and vegetarian. But they…
Having lived in Lisle nearly 20 years, it may surprise most that I had only been to Rayme's once—particularly since Rayme's has been a staple in Lisle for 37 years and only changed ownership twice. New owners Gary Nolan and Jerry Reynolds purchased Rayme's in 2009. Both had previous experience with bars (owned in Seneca and Oswego), but this is their first restaurant venture. "There are customers who have been coming weekly for 25 years," according to Betty Montello. Montello should know; she has been a waitress and bartender for 35 years. "If they ever fired me, my car would come here …
