Safely Recycle Christmas Lights

Don't just chuck broken lights into the garbage. Recycle them through the Village launches on Dec. 3

Lisle residents will soon be pulling out their boxes of holiday lights and determining which strands are broken or maybe residents have decided to switch to more environmentally-friendly LED lights and no longer need their old incandescent lights.  The Village of Lisle is offering residents a sustainable way to dispose of lights by recycling. 

The Village’s annual event takes place on Saturday, Dec. 3 and will once again be the official launch for the holiday light recycling program at .  After Dec. 4, residents can drop off holiday lights any time been 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday inside the Village Hall lobby, 925 Burlington Ave.  The Village will be accepting lights for recycling until the end of February 2012.

Lisle has partnered with Elgin Recycling who will strip the lights and recycle both the copper and plastic materials.  No parts will be shipped overseas.  The Village will accept any string of holiday lights, including incandescent and LED lights, and extension cords, free of charge.  There is no limit as to how many light strands residents can drop off for recycling.
