Winter Activities at the Morton Arboretum Continue

Got sax? We do. Brand new for the "Chamber Concerts:" The Solaire Quartet: a culturally-rich, all saxophone performance! Members have delighted audiences across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia as soloists, and with orchestras including the Chicago Civic. A reception follows each performance in the beautiful, wood-paneled Founder's Room, where the audience has a chance to mingle with the musicians. Cost: $28 (discounts for Arboretum members). March is "Maple Tapping Time!" See how a maple tree is tapped, how the sap is turned into delicious syrup and which types of maples make the best syrup. All participants receive 20 percent off any offering at the Arboretum's Ginkgo Restaurant. Registration is now available, call

Get ready for spring with the "Spring Garden Party!" Learn how to make the right garden choices, handle challenges, and turn your garden into a work of art with two days of workshops. Take away a new approach to gardening. Sign up for all three sections with a friend and each of you will receive a ten percent discount off the registration fee. Can you ID plants without leaves and flowers? Learn the clues to "Identifying Herbaceous Plants in Winter" while exploring the Schulenberg Prairie and the nearby woodlands. Get a basic understanding of sustainable concepts in "Eco-Friendly Gardening Workshop!" Learn how gradual changes in your home garden design can create healthier and beautiful results! A new theme presented each month. This month's theme is 'Throw Away Your Shears: Save Time and Money with Plant Healthy Pruning.' Cost: $59 (discounts for Arboretum members). Adults. Always wanted to learn about birds but weren't sure where to start? "Winter Bird Walk" takes students out into the winter landscape with an expert guide! Learn to identify Arboretum birds and their behaviors from a birding expert. Costs $10 (discounts for Arboretum members); and regular gatehouse admission fee applies. Teens and adults. Scientific illustration is the blend of art and science. Learn about the importance of this art form, which helps to communicate everything from the latest scientific discoveries to teaching children about biology. Visit the "Guild of Natural Science Illustrators" exhibition. All ages, Sterling Morton Library. February 15 – June 4: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday–Friday; 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Saturday

Join us for "Arbor Reading Adventures!" Children will hear an exciting nature-themed story, create crafts, and then head out on the grounds for an energizing walk! Themes change each week. Costs $5 (discounts for Arboretum members). Suggested for ages 3-5; adults must accompany children. Sterling Morton Library. Fridays in March: 11 - 11:45 a.m.
