The Village of Lisle received three “Excellence in Economic Development” awards from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). The awards were announced during the recent IEDC Annual Conference, which was held in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Village received awards in the following categories for communities with populations less than 25,000:

  • Multi-Year Economic Development Project – The Redevelopment of Downtown Lisle
  • Sustainable & Green Development – Green By Choice
  • General Purpose Promotion – “The Arboretum Village” Video

"We recognize the Village of Lisle for providing successful strategies to promote new standards in economic development in this period of global recovery,” said Dennis Coleman, IEDC chair. “Our awards honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in communities. They demonstrate that they are at the forefront of the economic development profession and are using innovative and effective practices that can be replicated in other communities."

“The Redevelopment of Downtown Lisle” was a comprehensive multi-year project that transformed Downtown Lisle into a nature based retail and restaurant district. The project included the installation of a new streetscape; façade, retail and restaurant grants; zoning changes; traffic reconfigurations, branding activities, floodplain related improvements, the creation of a new 4.5 acre recreational area, a $400,000 IDNR grant and more.

The “Green By Choice” Program facilitated positive sustainable changes within the community by encouraging businesses to meet the needs of consumers, while reducing waste and conserving natural resources.

Participating businesses received a green audit, offer sustainable products/services and incorporate sustainable practices into their operations. Members display “Green By Choice” communications and are listed in the Green Directory of Lisle Businesses.

“The Arboretum Village” Video uses a variety of diverse stakeholders and a four season’s backdrop to present
an overview of the Lisle community while reflecting its nature-based brand. The video is used to help attract
new businesses, residents, visitors and students to the community and makes the Village’s website more
engaging.

The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) is the premier membership organization dedicated to helping economic development professionals create high-quality jobs, develop vibrant communities and improve the quality of life in their regions. Downtown Lisle a "restaurant district"? More like a hair salon district...

Don't forget nails, cigarettes, and fortune telling. They have some of the loudest signs.
