National Kiwanis Peanut Days is approaching Sept. 23 and 24. The Kiwanis Club of Lisle will be collecting donations on Friday and Saturday between 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the corners of Route 53 & Maple Avenue, Maple & Yackley avenues, Yackley & Ogden avenus, and Ogden Avenue & Main Street. Kiwanians will also be downtown near The Nook.
Donations go to support our troops overseas and help fund the many projects of the Kiwanis. This year the Kiwanis provided over $5,000 in food and toys to needy families. They also provided $4,000 in scholarships to Lisle High School seniors.

Why Peanuts?
More than 3 million Americans now have some kind of nut allergy, with cases of peanut allergy in children more than tripling between 1997 and 2008, according to 2010 research report from the Jaffe Food Allergy Institute at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
The prevalence of combined peanut or tree nut allergies in children was 2.1 percent in 2008, compared with 0.6 percent in 1997.

These questions and comments are probably best left directed directly to the club. They meet weekly on Wednesday nights at the Hilton.
Let's not overshadow the main point: this is mean to spread the word about a volunteer opportunity next weekend.

Tommy--my comment is by force of habit. Here at Lisle Patch forums have been abused to air personal grievances; as a precaution I like to remind people to be both respectful and on point before things get too rowdy.
It's no secret that part of Patch's mission is to promote volunteer opportunities for residents. My concern here is about using the appropriate venue to voice your issues. I appreciate your and Maria's comments, but it's not a discussion that should be tacked onto one of our Volunteer Announcements (which are comparable to a classified ad in a print paper).
I think they are better posed to the Kiwanis Club at a meeting where you can get direct answers from them, or submitted in the form of a letter to the editor that can be posted in our Opinions section. I highly encourage you to do so--my email is karlie@patch.com. Or, you could use our Q&A tab to open up a discussion on it.
I hope you haven't misunderstood my intention. I think this could become a really good discussion--I would just feel more comfortable if it were occurring in a different area of the site.
